Driving the world of IoT at FTF China - with the BYD Qin!FTF Staff
With more than 2,400 attendees at FTF China, the Internet of Things took center stage, featuring the recently released plug-in Hybrid from BYD, the Qin. The Qin contains more than 20 Freescale analog, sensor and microcontroller solutions and allows the driver to start, stop and move the vehicle all through the use of an app on their smart phone. BYD General Manager, Caisong Zou, provided an overview of the vehicle and then moved the car, which was positioned outside of the ballroom, forward and backward using his phone.
The program also featured Dr. Kwok Wu’s software defined networking demonstration, OrCam’s ‘See it for Yourself’ and TC Helicon’s VoiceLive3. Oracle’s Gordon Tsang, APAC Regional Leader for IoT/M2M/Java, provided attendees with an overview of the Freescale IoT gateway, the hardware platform that forms the foundation of the flexible one-box concept.
The discussion and energy around the Internet of Things didn’t end with the opening session. Freescale’s Director of Business Development, Asia Pacific, Jason Zhang, led a panel session on IoT for more than 130 attendees, titled “Creating Partnerships & Developing Ecosystems to Lead the IoT Revolution.” The guest panelists for the session were Gordon Tsang, Oracle; Jing-Yeu Jaw, Principal Group Program Manager, IoT Operating System Group, Microsoft; MC Chiang, General Manager, Embedded Computing Group, Advantech; and Peter Zhou, Executive VP, AutoNavi/Alibaba. The panel explored machine-to-machine business opportunities, challenges and trends facing companies in preparing for the IoT revolution.
The Technology Lab was also alive with constant activity. Featuring more than 90 demonstrations from Freescale and partners, customers were able to readily get answers to development questions as well as be inspired by demonstrations.
